Star Wars Celebration proves to be great experience for kids

With 35,000 fans converging on the Orange County Convention Center, it may surprise readers to discover that a very large population of those visitors are small children. From Legos to coloring activities to cosplay, younger Star Wars have a stage all to their own at Star Wars Celebration VI.

A Star Wars laser tag arena (sponsored by Hard Knocks) hosted challenge after challenge of junior fans targeting one another with laser guns, hiding behind makeshift barriers and cheering when victorious. The extensive Star Wars celebrity list took a backseat for these fans while dip and dodge through the obstacle course.

One of the events that took center stage was the Jedi Training Academy allowing kids to undergo lightsaber training from a “Master,” and then face the Dark Side. With the Empire’s Theme blaring, Stormtroopers force the kids to one side of the stage and one-by-one they duel Darth Vader.

Star Wars cosplay plays a significant role in the convention. Kids dressed up and posing with others is certain be exciting for the children. A full body, “to scale” Stormtrooper uniform, a homemade Royal Guard costume and a detailed Cad Bane costume, were all some of the highlights worn by kids at the event.

Jackson, age 9, talked to Global Dispatch about his experience at the convention while sporting his Boba Fett helmet signed by Jeremy Bulloch.

“It’s awesome, just awesome.”

Young or old, it’s doubtful you’d a find fan at the four-day event who would disagree with young Jackson.
