Clayton Whittemore appears in court, confessed to Alexandra Kogut murder in 911 call
The man charged with murdering Alexandra Kogut, a College at Brockport freshman was in court for a hearing Friday.
Clayton Whittemore is accused of beating his girlfriend to death in her dorm room at Brockport in September. His attorneys say he suffered an extreme emotional disturbance the night of the attack and Whittemore confessed he just “snapped.”
There were four witnesses who took the stand including a 911 dispatcher who says that Whittemore called 911 the night of the murder. The dispatcher says Whittemore wanted to turn himself in, saying that he had done something really bad and asked for the death penalty.
That dispatcher says Whittemore’s father also called 911 because Clayton called asking for a pistol so he could kill himself.
Sandra Doorley, Monroe County District Attorney, says she has a strong case against Whittemore.
According to court paperwork, Whittemore admitted to killing Kogut.
In the statements, Whittemore told a jail deputy, “She started pushing me and yelling at me. So I pushed her back against the wall to get her to stop. She wouldn’t stop pushing me, so I started punching her and just snapped. I kept hitting her over and over with my fists.”
Whittemore has been in custody since September.
