Alexandra Kogut was murdered last month, shocking several communities in the New York area, as the former local hockey star was arrested, even before Kogut’s name was released.
Whittemore and Kogut allegedly started shoving each other during an argument about ‘stupid stuff’ in her dorm room at the SUNY College at Brockport. He also told a sheriff’s deputy, “I killed my girlfriend.”
The fight allegedly escalated, he could hear Kogut’s breathing sounded irregular, so he grabbed a curling iron and beat his girlfriend of a year to death with it because ‘he loved her and didn’t want her to suffer,’ according to the Associated Press.
Whittemore has been charged with second-degree murder.
Whittemore, a student at Utica College, pleaded not guilty during his initial court appearance. His murder arraignment is scheduled for October 25.
Whittemore and Kogut, who attended the same high school, had been carrying on a long distance relationship for the past year after she went to school at Brockport nearly 150 miles from the couple’s home town of New Hartford.
