Filipina-American actress, Megan Young, crowned Miss World 2013
Just about six weeks after being crowned Miss World Philippines, Megan Young, the 23-year-old Filipina-American actress was crowned Miss World 2013 in Bali, Indonesia Saturday evening (Indonesia time).
Young bested 126 candidates from all over world to win the crown. She is the first candidate from the Philippines to adorn the elusive crown.
In response to her victory just hours ago, the aspiring filmmaker said, “No words! Thank you so much for everyone for choosing me. I promise to be the best Miss World ever.”
Young accepted the Miss World crown from 2012 winner Wenxia Yu after being declared the winner of this year’s contest.
Following Megan was as first runner up, Miss France, Marine Lorphelin, and as second runner up, Miss Ghana, Carranzar Naa Okailey Shooter.
According to her official Facebook page, Megan Lynne Young is a Filipino American actress now current active in the Philippines. She is best known for being a former celebrity housemate on Pinoy Big Brother: Celebrity Edition 2.
Megan is an alumna of ABS-CBN’s rival television station GMA’s StarStruck and a former member of GMA Artist Center. In 2009, she was one of four chosen to be a new Video Jockey for the relaunching of Channel [V] Philippines.
Megan attended Trinity College in Quezon City, she then attended Digital Film Making at De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde.
The Miss World pageant drew a lot of controversy in the predominately Muslim country of Indonesia this year.
In an attempt to appease religious concerns, the pageant got rid of the swimsuit competition and replaced it with less-revealing beachwear attire.
In addition, the finals, originally to be held near the capital of Jakarta, ended up being relocated to the Hindu resort island of Bali.
