Barking dog alerts Florida family to fire, allowing them to flee
A terrier named Savannah saved the day in Oldsmar, Florida as a garage fire alerted the canine to danger and she alerted her family.
Savannah’s owner, Patti Autore, says the six-year-old Wheaten Terrier barks regularly, every morning when the neighbors leave, she tells Tampabay.com.
Monday morning’s bark was different, a sense of urgency and Autore and her boyfriend, Mike Brenner, then discovered the garage was ablaze and time was short.
By the time I could even think about what to do, it was done,” Brenner tells TBO.com. “We bailed out. We didn’t even have time to grab keys, clothes, nothing.”
“Large column of smoke as soon as we pulled out of the fire station this morning,” Fire Chief Dean O’Nale said. “Multiple calls received from folks who saw it. We pulled up and heavy smoke and flames were coming out of the garage area.”
Crews were able to beat down the fire in a few minutes, limiting damage to the garage, which had several classic motorcycles inside, and the front of the house.
No one was injured in the fire.
