‘X-Men Dark Phoenix’: Evan Peters teases a ‘darker’ film, ‘more mature’ Quicksilver

The reboot of 20th Century Fox’s X-Men franchise brought some exciting elements and Evan Peters’ Quicksilver is among the most popular. Now Peters teases his character ahead of the next film, X-Men: Dark Phoenix.

“He’s definitely a little older and more mature, a little more subdued,” Evans explained to Screen Rant, “sort of trying to make a, not a name but trying to do right by the X-Men and be a good guy and use his powers for good, so I think he’s on that path at the moment.”

Peters’ version of Quicksilver debuted in 2014’s X-Men: Days of Future Past, and won over fans after his show-stealing scene in which he sabotaged numerous security officers at the Pentagon using his super-speed.

Speaking with Collider primarily to promote his newest project, American Animals, Peters was asked about what fans can expect from Dark Phoenix: “I think it’s the classic X-Men: First Class tone, where there’s a bit of humor thrown in there, but it’s much darker than the previous one, Apocalypse. Apocalypse was the ‘80s, so there was a lot of room for goofy stuff in there. This one is a much more serious film about the internal struggle of Phoenix and Jean, so it’s a dramatic film. There’s nothing very comedic about it, other than the few moments that are in there. I think it’s gonna be a powerful one. It’s Dark Phoenix. I think it’s gonna be darker than we’re used to. It’s gonna be a change, but it’s gonna be fun for everybody.”

Jessica Chastain is believed to be the villain in the film, but no details have been confirmed.

Simon Kinberg said the Dark Phoenix film will be more connected to the original comic book plot than X-Men: The Last Stand‘s attempt at the Dark Phoenix comic saga.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix stars James McAvoy as Charles Xavier, Michael Fassbender as Magneto, Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique, Nicholas Hoult as Beast, Sophie Turner as Jean Grey, Alexandra Shipp as Storm, Tye Sheridan as Cyclops and Kodi Smit-McPhee as Nightcrawler.

The new film arrives February 14, 2019.
