Patel Conservatory opens Rock school workshop and will premiere ‘Quest for the Stars’
The Patel Conservatory at the Straz Center campus features great program for students who love music, theater, ballet and other performing arts.
September 3, from 6-7pm, the public is invited to a free Rock School workshop which will included an optional placement audition.
Rock School instructors Dean Tidey and Paul Stoddart, will demonstrate the inner workings of the Patel Conservatory’s popular Rock School program. Vocal Coach Deborah Lynch will discuss vocal instruction. Registration is required by calling 813.222.6411.
Then the Patel Conservatory will present Quest for the Stars, a world premiere musical, on Sunday, Sept. 8, at noon and 2 p.m. in the TECO Theater.
Quest for the Stars was created by students in the Patel Conservatory’s Theater for Young Audiences (TYA) program and nationally recognized playwright Doug Cooney, author of the popular children’s book, Beloved Dearly. Quest for the Stars will be performed by professional actors from the Tampa Bay area.
Directed by Jack Holloway with original composition by Jonathon Cho, Quest for the Stars explores science and history in an amusing, fun and musical journey.
Partnering with The University of Tampa, the Patel Conservatory will hold a free Pre All-State Clinic for middle and high school string students on Saturday, Sept. 14.
Taught by professionals from The University of Tampa, the Patel Conservatory and The Florida Orchestra, the clinic will be held at the David A. Straz, Jr. Center for the Performing Arts at the following times:
- 8 to 10 a.m.: middle school students
- 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.: ninth and 10th grades
- 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.: 11th and 12th grades
Included will be tours of both the Straz Center and The University of Tampa. For $10, attendees may enjoy lunch on The University of Tampa campus. To attend this free clinic, reservations are required by calling by 813.222.1002 by Sept. 5.
