Kansas: Shawnee murder suicide victim identified as Courtney Bivins, killed by Josh Mobley
Shawnee police on Tuesday identified Courtney Bivins as the murder suicide victim, killed by a male friend, Joshu P. Mobley, over the weekend in western Shawnee. Officials at Campbellsville University confirmed that Bivins was previously known as Courtney Clifton.
Bivins, 27, of Kansas City, was close friends with Mobley, 34, of Mission, but not in a domestic relationship with one another, police confirmed.
Police responded to the 5500 block of Frisbie Road, near Riverfront Park in Western Shawnee just before 1 p.m. on Sunday, performing a welfare check, only to discover Bivins dead.
Police said Mobley shot and killed Bivins and then shot and killed himself.
Bivins played basketball for Campbellsville University and graduated in 2013. She played 19 games for Western Kentucky University before transferring. Bivins played for Lexington Christian Academy in high school and won a state championship.
A news release from the university said she was a nurse and had been “actively pursuing a career field in anesthesiology.”
Courtney graduated from Campbellsville in 2013 with a biology degree.
“We are deeply saddened by the news of this tragedy,” Campbellsville President Michael V. Carter said in a release. “Courtney was fun to watch on the court, and I remember her talents fondly during her time as a Lady Tiger. We ask that everyone involved with Campbellsville University keep the Clifton and Bivins families in their prayers during this time.”
