Director Patty Jenkins says ‘Wonder Woman 2’ will be different, hints at Lynda Carter cameo
Wonder Woman was the third-highest-grossing film of 2017, so it is understandable that fans are eager for the sequel. Director Patty Jenkins is set to return to direct the new film.
“We’re actually making a totally different film with a lot of the same, similar like things that we love, but it’s its own movie completely, so it’s not ‘two’ to us”, Jenkins told Entertainment Tonight.
“It’s an entirely new adventure together that we couldn’t be luckier [to do]”.
Gal Gadot echoes the exact phrase: “I’m SO excited welcome on board Kristen! This is going to be WONDERful!”
Few details are known, but Wonder Woman 2 will take place during the end of the Cold War in the 1980s. More often than not, sequels can turn out to be clones of the original film, and it’s clear that Jenkins has no interest in that.
She discussed the superhero flick with ET during the Palm Springs Film Festival on Tuesday and teased familiar elements but also a new journey. “He loves Wonder Woman, and it’s been fantastic to watch this character come back to that generation in such an authentic way and everything she stands for, right alongside all these other great characters”.
Jenkins was also asked about a possible cameo appearance for original Wonder Woman Lynda Carter, who would have shown up in the first movie had her schedule permitted it.
“We’ll see. Lynda is one of the dearest people to us, has been a great mentor and dear friend. And we actually desperately tried to get her in the first one and we had the scheduling that couldn’t work, so she’s always been a part of our Wonder Woman family. We won’t say anything yet, but we certainly—there’s no lack of trying.”
Wonder Woman 2 is now scheduled for a November 2019 release.
