Two addition human H5N1 avian influenza cases reported, awaiting WHO confirmation
Two addition human H5N1 avian influenza cases, one fatal, are being “unofficially” reported in a Cambodian news source today.

The Phnom Penh Post says two children, an 11-year-old boy from Kampong Chhnang province and an 8-year-old boy from Kandal province, were admitted last week to Phnom Penh’s Kantha Bopha Hospital with H5N1 avian flu.
Unfortunately, the elder boy died from the infection, while the eight year old is in stable condition.
These cases follow the 6th confirmed case of the year, a fatal case, in a 3-year-old boy from Phnom Penh province.
The Cambodian news source reports that Vicky Houssiere, a spokeswoman for the World Health Organization in Cambodia, declined to confirm the two new cases of H5N1.
“We can’t confirm any new cases before the Ministry of Health releases a statement,” Houssiere said.
When confirmed, these will be the 7th and 8th cases reported in the Kingdom in 2014 thus far.
