‘Spectre’ will focus on James Bond’s origins, ‘how Bond became Bond’
James Bond is back later this year and director Sam Mendes discussed how the story for Spectre evolved out of the Skyfall ending and defining the James Bond character.
“Bond has been rebooted at the end of the movie. This is only the beginning of the story The Bond creation myth never happened. I felt there was an opportunity there: What made him? And who were the people who affected him along the way? You’re sort of telling the story backwards of how Bond became Bond.”
Skyfall proved to be the biggest Bond film to date, earning over $1 billion worldwide.
Daniel Craig is back for his fourth Bond film, battlng Christoph Waltz’s megalomanic Oberhauser (rumored to have ties to the villain Blofeld), a supervillain that has deep connections to our hero’s past.
Spectre stars Bond ladies: Monica Bellucci and the award-winning Léa Seydoux, playing Lucia Sciarra and doctor Madeleine Swann, respectively.
“She comes from a man’s world,” Belluci said of her character. “But when the attraction between them takes place and she realizes her feminine power on him, then she trusts him to save her.”
Ralph Fiennes, Ben Whishaw and Naomie Harris all return to reprise their roles as M, Q and Moneypenny. Sherlock‘s Andrew Scott and Dave Bautista, from Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy are also new additions to the cast.
Spectre opens on November 6.
