‘Sherlock’ season 4 set to film in April for a 2017 release

The extremely popular BBC show Sherlock has only aired a special episode titled “The Abominable Bride” aired earlier this the year and is set to miss out on the rest of 2016. New reports point to a production start later this month with a 2017 airing for season four.

PBS Boss Paula Kerger mentioned that they are planning to air the next series of the hit show sometime next year. Based on her announcement and on the trend of how the episodes are released, some fans are expecting that the show would most likely premiere on New Year’s Day. “We do have the next ‘Sherlock’ announced, that is coming up about a year from now.” Kerger mentioned in the announcement.

The new series will also most likely be released in the United Kingdom first, which will then be followed by a release in other territories. The New Year release is the most likely date as it was also the case for both the second, third, and the special episode of the hit show.

Sherlock’s creator Steven Moffat has now revealed that the fourth series of the hit television show will continue the format of three stand alone films with each film lasting for an hour and a half. All of the films will revolve around an ongoing mystery which the characters will have to investigate and solve.

According to reports, filming for the new episodes are already planned and will most likely begin this month in the U.K.

The network, however, still has to consider the busy schedules of the show’s main characters, which could cause further delays. Benedict Cumberbatch, who plays the titular role of Sherlock Holmes, now has a multitude of new projects, including the upcoming new Marvel movie, Doctor Strange. This goes the same for his sidekick Martin Freeman, who plays Dr. John Watson, appearing next in Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War.
