Missing autistic 7-year-old, Michael Kingsbury, found dead

Within moments of finding 7-year-old Michael Kingsbury’s body, police began shutting down streets all over the area.

Kingsbury’s body was discovered just 40 feet from where the child had last been seen by family members about 32 hours earlier.

Assistant Chief Peter Newsham told reporters he couldn’t speculate how Kingsbury hadn’t been seen in previous searches around the car where he was found.

“It’s too early to determine whether somebody missed something or not,” Newsham said.

“If we missed that spot, if we missed that, I have no idea how,” he said. “And I’m really sick if we did.”

The cause of Kingsbury’s death hadn’t been determined Monday evening. It wasn’t clear how long he had been in the car, or whether foul play was involved.

Kingsbury’s mother told ABC 7 that her son had autism spectrum disorder. She said the only other time he ever wandered off he was found only one door away. This time, just two doors away, he was almost that close.
