Melissa McBride says ‘Walking Dead’ season 6 finale is ‘so very dark’ as Steven Yeun talks Negan

The Walking Dead season six finale is likely going to be shocking and disturbing, with a promised introduction of Negan, the popular evil villain from the comic book series, and the remarks by star Melissa McBride cement these thoughts.

As noted by Comicbook.com, several cast and crew members from The Walking Dead have shared their thoughts about The Walking Dead season six finale: Tom Payne, Ross Marquand, Andrew Lincoln,Lauren Cohan, Greg Nicotero and Lennie James all have very consistent answers –the finale is going to blow minds and break hearts. Melissa McBride, who plays Carol, now spoke out about the final episode of the season, saying that “It was so very dark.”

“I couldn’t say anything after I had finished reading it. I felt like I had dropped into a blackhole.”

The Walking Dead has never been shy about killing off popular characters or regulars so the appearance of Negan could spell doom for Glenn, the character played by Steven Yeun, who is brutally murdered in the comic book by Negan.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan makes his debut as the charismatic Walking Dead villain in the season 6 finale.

“For me, his arrival is awesome,” says Yeun to EW. “We’ve been waiting for this person for a long time, and in the comic books, he in a way brings a level of stakes that are kind of unmatched. And so, for me, for Negan to come into the show is, to say nothing less, f—ing awesome.”

Negan makes his grand entrance in issue 100 of The Walking Dead comic, and bashes Glenn’s face in with his barbed wire-covered baseball bat he affectionately refers to as Lucille, killing the fan-favorite in horrific fashion.

Showrunner Scott M. Gimple has a habit of changing things up in the TV adaptation. For instance, while Tyreese was beheaded by the Governor at the prison in the comics, in the TV version it was Hershel who ended up on the wrong side of the blade. So the deal is far from sealed when it comes to Glenn’s fate.

The Walking Dead airs Sundays at 9 PM ET on AMC.
