Matthew Vaughn confirmed as ‘Star Wars’ director by ‘Seven Psychopaths’ star
The new “Star Wars” film appears to have a director as Jason Flemyng confirmed Matthew Vaughn’s involvement in the reboot of the franchise during an interview with HeyUGuys published Wednesday.
A long list of directors has bounced around the Internet rumor mill for “Star Wars: Episode VII,” but no official annoucements have been made. Flemyng was speaking on the red carpet event, promoting “Seven Psychopaths” when he dropped the gossip.
“Me and Matt have done nine films together, so I’m sure I’ll get the call for Star Wars.”
Jason Flemyng, who starred as Azazel in Vaughn’s “X-Men: First Class,” didn’t seem to know that is was not public knowledge the former “Kick Ass” director has agreed to helm the next “Star Wars” film.
“I think that’s… Er yeah, he’s interested, yeah. Bar the deal… Yeah, I mean I think…”, interspersed with some classic foot-in-mouth expressions.
While this is unconfirmed, it does align with some theory that this explains Vaughn’s sudden exit from the “First Class” sequel, which was slated to begin filming in early 2013.
“Episode VII” is set for 2015, which was announced when Disney purchased Lucasfilm. Michael Arndt (“Toy Story 3,” “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire”) has been hired to write the film.
