Kentucky Senator Rand Paul returns $600,000 to the Treasury
The Republican Senator from Bowling Green announced he is returning $600,000 to the US Treasury, money his Senate office didn’t spend during the past year, according to a Courier-Journal report Wednesday.
Paul made the announcement at a news conference in Louisville today. The frugal Dr. Paul even bested last year’s total returned to the Treasury coffers of $500,000.
“It’s the only budget I control. … It’s not enough, but it’s a start,” Paul said. “We are frugal from top to bottom,” he continues saying his office “watches every purchase”.
The thriftiness apparently runs in the genes as Senator Paul’s father, former Texas Congressman Ron Paul was notorious for being thrifty with his House office budget, returning amounts totally 10% back to the US Treasury year-after-year.
