Illegal drugs at center of Kathryn McCormick and her son’s death, investigation ongoing
Wallingford police have identified a woman who was found dead with her infant child on Friday afternoon.
Kathryn McCormic, age 27, and her 13-month-old son were found unresponsive by McCormic’s fiance. The man made a “frantic call” for medical assistance, but the mother and child were declared dead at the scene.
“We’ll know a lot more once the toxicology report is back,” said Lt. Marc Mikulski, police spokesman. “At this point it just appears to be a tragic accident.”
Mikulski said substances that appear to be illegal narcotics and drug paraphernalia were found close to the bodies, adding that authorities are treating the case “as a pair of untimely deaths at this point.”
The case is open and pending further studies from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, police said Friday night.
Neighbors described McCormic as a nice young woman who recently moved to the area and enjoyed having friends over.
