Dumbo

Disney appears to be poised to dust off one of their classics, Dumbo, for a follow-up live-action film.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the new version of the film involves “the adaptation of the original movie, adding a unique family story that parallels Dumbo’s story.”

Transformers franchise writer Ehren Kruger penning the script as the article notes “the studio believes that because of the current state of CG technology, live-action movies featuring a soaring pachyderm seems viable.”

Disney‘s live-action princess adventure Enchanted may be getting another chapter seven years after the original.

Deadline reportsShrek 2 and The Smurfs writers J. David Stem and David N. Weiss have been hired to write Enchanted 2, marking the scripting duo’s latest live-action family outing after penning Are We There Yet? and Daddy Day Camp for Sony.”

Enchanted earned Golden Globe and Oscar nominations while earning $340M at the worldwide box office.

 The Jungle Book

A live-action adaptation of the Disney classic, Jungle Book, will be directed by Jon Favreau, replacing Andy Serkis.

Iron Man 3 and famous actor Ben Kingsley was cast to voice the black panther Bagheera. The script, which is being written by Justin Marks, centres on a boy named Mowgli, who is raised by animals in the jungle. Bagheera serves as the child’s mentor and best friend, protecting him from the dangers of the wild, including the carnivorous Shere Khan, voiced by Luther, Pacific Rim star Idris Elba.

See the comment below.

Serkis says “…this is such an extraordinary script, Jungle Book, written by Callie Kloves, [“Harry Potter” screenwriter] Steve Kloves’ daughter, and Steve’s one of the producers. It’s a return to Rudyard Kipling. It’s very dark, it is the law of the jungle, and it’s just an amazing project.”

The Jungle Book will also include the voice talents of Lupita Nyong’o and Scarlett Johansson as Kaa.

CORRECTION: See the reader’s comment below on Serkis and Favreau – there are two different Jungle Book films in the works.

Frozen 2

There hasn’t been a bigger Disney film than Frozen and the studio has finally dropped some details on a sequel.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney head Alan “Horn told his audience that Disney’s sole focus at the moment was getting the Frozen musical ready for Broadway and that a sequel hadn’t even been discussed.”

The sequel is said to be focused on Queen Elsa’s quest for her one true love.  The movie is said to revolve on finding her prince charming that will accept her for who she is. Princess Anna will be engaged to be married to Kristoff.

There are also other rumors going around about having an Olaf stand alone movie.
