D23 Expo: ‘Captain America Civil War’ footage, teases detailed
Marvel fans an amazing tease for Captain America: Civil War as Chris Evans stepped out to introduce the footage.
In a dramatic first scene, Falcon provides the lead-in to an action sequence where Crossbones battles Captain America in some sort of foreign marketplace. Crossbones has mechanical arms, knives embedded in each one and Cap nearly finds victory, Bucky is mentioned.
General Thunderbolt Ross (William Hurt) provides the voice over, stating that “The world owed you an unplayable debt. People see you as a hero. There are some who prefer the word vigilante—people are afraid.”
Cap responds, “This job, you try to save as many as we can. Sometimes that doesn’t mean everyone” and the scene goes the credit scenes of The Winter Soldier and Ant-Man.
“Bucky, do you know me?” Captain America asks the captured Winter Soldier. “Your mother’s name was Sara,” he says.
Enter Hawkeye and Scott Lang.
“Oh my god, Captain America, it’s an honor” he says. He starts shaking his hand and staring at him. “I’m shaking your hand too long, right?” He turns around, sees Scarlet Witch and says, “I know you too, you’re great.” And then he just keeps touching Cap’s shoulders. “I know you know a lot of super people, so thanks for thinking of me,” Lang says.
The Avengers fighting each other is amazing.
Cap and his team against Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man and Don Cheadle’s War Machine: “Are we still friends?” Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow/Natasha Romanoff asks Jeremy Renner’s Clint Barton/Hawkeye at one point during the brawl. “Depends how hard you hit me,” Clint fires back.
Stark tells Steve that “Sometimes I wanna punch you in your perfect teeth.” They disagree over the monitoring, especially in the wake of the SHIELD/Hydra storyline. Tony: “We have no boundries, we’re no better than the bad guys.”
Chadwick Boseman in plain clothes is revealed and one shot of him extending his “claws,” but no Spider-man or Tom Holland.
Civil War stars Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Emily VanCamp, Don Cheadle, Jeremy Renner, Chadwick Boseman, Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Rudd, Frank Grillo, Tom Holland, with William Hurt and Daniel Brühl.
The movie returns the Winter Soldier teams and is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo from a screenplay by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.
