China: Knife-wielding man, Min Yingjun, injures 23 outside Henan province primary school
Some 22 elementary students and one adult were attacked by a man with a knife outside the school while students were arriving to class Friday morning, according to an Al Jazeera report today.
The attack occurred at a primary school in the Henan province village of Chengping happened shortly before 8 a.m.
In police custody is local villager, 36-year-old Min Yingjun.
According to reports, an elderly woman was the first to be attacked by the assailant, then the students likely ages 6 to 11 years before being subdued by security.
There were no fatalities in the knife-wielding attack; however, several students required hospitalization and at least two were seriously injured and transferred to a different hospital.
Police have not determined a motive; however, a string of similar attacks in recent years reveal that most of the attackers are mentally disturbed men dealing with one or more issues.
In 2010 alone, nearly 20 children were killed and more than 50 wounded in similar attacks.
