Body of Bangladeshi doctor who reportedly died from MERS coronavirus in Saudi Arabia, Dr. Mohammed Humayun Kabeer, being flown to Dhaka Monday
A Bangladeshi physician, who was working at Prince Salman Hospital in Riyadh, has reportedly died from an infection of Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV), according to a report from Arab News today.
The doctor, identified as 55-year-old Dr. Mohammed Humayun Kabeer, worked as a surgeon at the hospital.

According to reports, Dr. Kabeer was treated at the Intensive Care Unit for nine days for a severe respiratory infection. He subsequently died of multi-organ failure due to the MERS virus on Wednesday.
Officials with the Bangladesh Embassy say Kabeer’s body is scheduled to be transported to Dhaka on Monday.
Kabeer is reported to be the 142nd MERS coronavirus cases in Saudi Arabia and the 58th death.

Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) is a viral respiratory illness. MERS is caused by a coronavirus called “Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus” (MERS-CoV).
According to the CDC, most people who got infected with MERS-CoV developed severe acute respiratory illness with symptoms of fever, cough, and shortness of breath. About half of them died. Some people were reported as having a mild respiratory illness.
MERS-CoV has been shown to spread between people who are in close contact. Transmission from infected patients to healthcare personnel has also been observed. Clusters of cases in several countries are being investigated.
