‘Boardwalk Empire’ star Charlie Cox cast as Matt Murdock in ‘Daredevil’ series
Marvel has made another announcement, casting the lead in their Netflix Daredevil TV series, just days after changing showrunners.
The studio and creators, led now by Steven DeKnight, have picked Charlie Cox to play Matt Murdock aka Daredevil, the “Man Without Fear.” The news was confirmed by the studio Tuesday night.
Cox is well known at Tristan Thorne in Stardust and Owen Slater in HBO’s Boardwalk Empire. Cox also co-stars alongside Luke Evans, Dominic Cooper and Sarah Gadon in Universal’s upcoming film Dracula Untold.
Matt Murdock is blinded as a young boy but develops “extraordinary senses” and grows up to become a crime-fighter called Daredevil, who protects the streets of Hell’s Kitchen, New York City by night.
Daredevil will air exclusively on Netflix in 2015, and is just one of the upcoming Marvel shows alongside Iron Fist, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones and The Defenders. The first season will be 13 episodes.
