Liev Schreiber talks ‘Ray Donovan,’ Naomi Watts, a cigar on the beach and being a ‘movie star’
From X-Men Origins: Wolverine to the Manchurian Candidate remake to The Sum of All Fears, Liev Schreiber’s acting resume in long and impressive. Now the self-proclaimed New Yorker finds himself on the cover of the new Nov/Dec Cigar Aficionado and, now importantly, the star of a hit new show Ray Donovan.
“I was not interested in television. And I was less interested in a TV show that was shot in L.A., because I’m a New Yorker,” the Sphere star explained about his jump to the small screen.
“It was a really good script; there was no way around that.”
Now Schreiber find himself on the cover of the November/December Cigar Aficionado and he explains his fondness of cigars before discussing the family.
“I really enjoy that feeling of being inebriated with the smoke. It’s not often my thing but, if I’m in the right place and atmosphere, it can be nice—sitting on a beach with an old Scotch. Even then, I only make it through about 10 puffs because I can’t resist inhaling.”
With actress Naomi Watts, he has two children, Alexander and Samuel (age 6 and 4 respectively) and addressed a question about not officially getting married.
“To me, we’re married, though I guess that, legally, we’re a domestic partnership,” he says. “I’m just happy we’re a great couple.”
It isn’t just Ray Donovan that keeps Schreiber busy, he has a new film titled A Perfect Man which opens on Halloween overseas, so the “Movie Star” won’t go away anytime soon.
I’m flattered but that seems like a bit of a stretch. When I hear that term, I think about people like Johnny Depp or Angelina Jolie. Actually, I think of people like Gary Cooper, Bette Davis, Jimmy Stewart, Cary Grant. I mean, I act, I’m a parent, I’m an entrepreneur. I don’t know if you have anyone anymore who is exclusively a movie star.”
