Patrick Duffy optimistic ‘Dallas’ season 3 will happen, proud of season 2 ‘cliffhanger’
Dallas star Patrick Duffy says that he is “optimistic” about the show’s chances of returning for a third season.
The TNT revamp has struggled in its second year, with ratings in the US falling under 2 million viewers.
UPDATE: TNT renewed the show for a third season, set to arrive early 2014 – more here
“I’m optimistic about a season three,” Duffy told TV Guide. “But only based on the fact that I don’t believe that the directors, writers and actors and that every other person involved in making Dallas could make a better television show called Dallas.”
He added: “I think writing for the last episode of [season two] is one of the best executions of a cliffhanger in the history of Dallas.”
Duffy says he’s excited to get back to Bobby’s roots, but admits he enjoyed his brief walk on the wild side when he was forced to help execute J.R.’s plan this season.
“For me, it was fun. Not because I want to play bad guys, but because, playing Bobby for so many years now, it’s fun to play a character you know that well doing something he’s not supposed to do. He was so out of his comfort zone,” Duffy says. “But it’s not something that I want my character to do, and I want to keep playing this character for the next 15 years. So I don’t think he’s going to go to the dark side very often.”
Duffy added that he remains proud of Dallas despite the show’s declining viewership.
“If we were, for some strange reason, not to get picked up, I wouldn’t feel bad at all because I feel so good about what we’ve done,” said the 64-year-old actor.
The Dallas season finale airs Monday at 9/8c on TNT
Dallas must go on!!!!…It’s one of the best shows and it keeps you coming back everyweek. Also loved the season finale you can never predict the ewings although I don’t want elena to join cliff barnes.
[…] Duffy made news when he discussed the renewal and being […]
I am amazed at the great job the writers have done. The end of each episode has been outstanding, which keeps you coming back week after week. I am 58 years old, and like a lot of others, there are very few new shows that keep us coming back each week.
I don’t know if a different day or time would make any difference, I record on my dvr.
I do really like the new Dallas and hope it comes back, the only thing is I didn’t like the season finale ending with Elena going to somebody for revenge on the Ewings for taking some land, that was done 40 years ago and the current ewings would have no knowledge of it even happening, I think that storyline is kind of foolish.
We look forward to Monday nights. My husband and I both watched Dallas when we were younger. Please pick it up for several more seasons. We love this show! Thanks!
Dallas must go on!!!! This show is great and should keep on with Season 3, 4, etc… TV has gone to crap these days because of all the pure reality shows that are just plain stupid. This show is decades old and needs to continue on. I am 28 and grew up watching it and now my children watch it. I even took them to SouthFork Ranch and they loved it. Please keep this show!!!

I will absolutely done with TV if they cancel Dallas. It is very well done. The acting is awsome. The way they JR off was brilliant. Im upset with Victoria Principle for not at least making a cameo. She owes that to her fans who made her famous. Dallas should get 5 more years.
I LOVE DALLAS! I WATCHED DALLAS IN THE 70’S AND I WAS SO HAPPY WHEN THEY BROUGHT IT BACK. I HAVE WATCHED BOTH OF THE NEW SEASONS FAITHFULLY. PLEASE DO NOT CANCEL THIS WONDERFUL SHOW. IT IS SO NICE TO BE ABLE TO WATCH A SHOW THAT IS NOT A REALITY SHOW. NO TV SERIES WILL EVER TOP DALLAS. I LOVE THE “OLD DALLAS” ACTORS AND THE NEW COMERS ARE JUST AS WONDERFUL. I DON’T CARE IF DALLAS MOVES TO 3:00 IN THE MORNING, I WILL WATCH IT. PLEASE KEEP DALLAS COMING! WE MISS YOU J R.
I’ve been watching Dallas since 1978 when I was 18 years old. I’ve seen every episode of the original and the new Dallas. It is the fault of TNT for the lack or viewership because of the lack of marketing and putting it up against a lot of great shows such as Dancing With The Stars, Castle and Hawaii Five 0. Please renew Dallas with a minimum of 3 seasons and a minimum of 20 episodes per season. Don’t cancel my favorite show that I will watch every episode. Just because now I am 53 and over 50 the networks could care less about. I am tired of the new crap on TV.
Without Bobby & Sue Ellen & Cliff – this show flops! Period..
I think the youngsters can hold their own. They did an outstanding job this season.
Omg it has to be picked back up this is the best show on right now… I don’t care which time slot you pick just come back
DALLAS IS A GREAT SERIES.PLEASE BRING JT BACK FOR ANOTHER SEASON. MAYBE WEDNESDAY WOULD BE GOOD BUT I WILL WATCH IT ANY NIGHT!
Please pick Dallas back up for a 3rd season. Dallas is the one and only show I look forward to watch. Along w the old episodes.
Please keep Dallas running!!!!
Thank you!

I agree Monday is a hard night for any show to be on but please please bring Dallas back for s03 it’s such an epic show!!! It deserves to be on tv and we deserve it after a cliffhanger like that one!!! EPIC!!!
I SURE HOPE THAT DALLAS WILL HAVE A 3RD SEASON. THINK
THROUGH THE YEARS IT HAS BEEN THE GREATEST T V SHOW.
THANK YOU.
Please renew it for a 3rd (and maybe final) season!! Thank you!!
I try to revisit Dallas when I can Aftet all at the beginning Jim Davis died and they had to write Jock out as dead. Barbara Bek Geddes was out and was temporarily replaced by Donna Reed who ended up dying after Barbara Bel Geddes came back. Life imitating art all the time . Dallas is warmly loved Too bad Larry Hagman never was able to have Mommy Mary Martin play a Madam that was what she wanted. Whenever Larry was being evil JR so magnificently I used to call him the ” Son of Peter Pan” after all that’s who he was!!
put it back on wedsnday nights where it was doing great last year and the ratings will go back up garuntee it. its kind of hard to compete with anything on monday nights theres so many shows on mondays that takes away from each and every great show thats on tv on a monday night
So true my husband and I dvr it so we can watch it. I really liked it on Wednesday.
