‘Looper’ premieres at Toronto film festival
Over 2,500 people packed the Roy Thomson Hall at the Toronto International Film Festival for the premiere of the new Sci-Fi thriller “Looper,” which stars Bruce Willis, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Emily Blunt.
Cameron Bailey, TIFF’s art director said, “This is not only the first time we’ve opened the fest with a sci-fi film, but with a U.S.-China joint production.”
“Wow, this is incredible,” Gordon-Levitt stated.
“Toronto’s a festival full of cinephiles,” he explained to a gaggle of reporters. “It doesn’t have the glitz and glamour, and I really like that. Here it’s about the films.”
“It’s incredible to do the world premiere of Looper in a town that loves movies.”
Director Rian Johnson was somewhat cautioned, saying that ““it would be awkward” if the audience didn’t like it.
Willis added comments revealing his motives if he could time travel.
“If I could go back in time, I’d… get to the answers I needed quicker,” he explained. “Because I’ve made mistakes, I’ve hurt people’s feelings, and I’d want to be able to correct that.”
The audience responded with an intense applause as the film concluded.
In 2042 “Looper” follows Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Joe, an assassin for the mob who sends back targets in time for Joe to eliminate and “dispose of” from 2072. Joe discovers that one target is, in fact, his future self (Willis), who escapes Joe.
The film also stars Blunt, Jeff Daniels, Piper Perabo, Paul Dano and Noah Segan.
“Looper” opens in theaters on September 28, 2012.
