Google exec Kirk Perry: God turns tragedy into triumph
Google’s president of brand solutions Kirk Perry said at the 2015 Silicon Valley Prayer Breakfast that God has turned tragedy into triumph in his life, discussing the trials of his past as he now faces a new crisis.
“I was a self-made man,” Perry said, reflecting on growing up poor and becoming a “work-aholic.”
“I remember I would leave for work before my girls would wake up, and I would get home after they were in bed, but I didn’t see that at all.”
Perry’s life was shattered when his six-year-old daughter Carly was diagnosed with cancer in 1999. At one point, doctors believed that she would require a colostomy bag for the rest of her life.
Perry became a Christian after his daughter made a full recovery.
Perry was diagnosed with cancer three weeks before speaking at the breakfast confessing to Christian Today that he was angry with God at first and later he realized that his treatable cancer could give hope to others.
“God took another tragedy and turned it into a triumph and it completely flipped my state of mind,” Perry said. “I believe in a redeeming God, and that’s gonna will use this to glorify him. I believe that through this story, it’s going add another chapter to my life so that I can be a further witness for God. And I can tell you with 100% certainty that God loves us incredibly.”
