Florida Senator Marco Rubio hires neoconservative Jamie Fly for his foreign affairs staff
U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) Friday announced Jamie Fly is joining his Washington staff to serve as Counselor for Foreign and National Security Affairs, according to a press release Jan. 18.
“I’m excited to welcome Jamie to our staff next month,” said Rubio. “He brings great experience to the office, and will be a valuable addition to our team as we look forward to the year ahead. Our nation is facing serious challenges around the globe, and it’s critical that we do everything we can this Congress to ensure that America remains a leader in the world.
“Jamie’s experience in both the government and private sector will make him an asset to the foreign policy challenges and initiatives we look forward to working on this year.”
Jamie Fly has served as the Executive Director of the Foreign Policy Initiative (FPI) since its founding in early 2009. Prior to joining FPI, Mr. Fly served in the Bush administration at the National Security Council (2008-2009) and in the Office of the Secretary of Defense (2005-2008).
According to the Institute for Policy Studies, the Foreign Policy Initiative was founded by several high-profile neoconservative figures—including William Kristol, Robert Kagan, and Dan Senor.
As FPI’s executive director, Fly is frequently quoted in the press on a variety of U.S. foreign policy issues, including increased defense spending, the need to “win” in Afghanistan, and regime change in countries like Iran and North Korea.
During the 113th Congress, Rubio will continue to serve as a member of the Committee on Foreign Relations and the Select Committee on Intelligence.
Fly will start in early February.
