Doctors without Borders issues statement on Nigeria polio worker killings
Humanitarian and medical aid organization, Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) issued a statement today concerning the tragic murders of at least a dozen polio workers in Nigeria Friday.
The following is the statement from MSF, which was emailed to The Global Dispatch earlier today:
Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is not involved in polio vaccination in Nigeria, and does not have projects in the area where these attacks happened. However MSF calls for respect for any medical act by ensuring the safety and security of patients, medical staff, and health facilities. These places need to be a safe location where medics can perform their duty, and patients can receive the medical care they need.
MSF is a medical humanitarian assistance organization that has been providing emergency medical services throughout Nigeria since 1971. MSF is not affiliated with any religion, government agency or political party.
