Chris Matthews likens Trump firing Jared Kushner to Mussolini: ‘He had them executed’
During the pre-inauguration of Donald Trump as the 45th President of the United States, Chris Matthews made a Mussolini comparison on MSNBC’s live coverage of today’s events.
During the panel discussion with Brian Williams, Rachel Maddow, Eugene Robinson and Steve Schmidt on Trump’s inner circle and the hiring of son-in-law Jared Kushner, Matthews jumped in to talk about how that will be difficult.
“It’s hard, Rachel, it’s hard to fire your son-in-law,” the Hardball host said. “That’s the tricky part. But Mussolini had a great solution to that. He had them executed.”
Rachel Maddow was taken about by Matthews’ comment as she could be heard saying “Jesus, Chris,” the Rachel Maddow Show host said.
“So if I were Jared, I’d be a little careful,” Matthews added.
“Well all the people who were waiting for the mention of Mussolini have just started drinking,” Maddow said.

In December 2015 Matthews spoke with Trump asking: “Is Donald Trump honest when he says that Barack Obama isn’t a legitimate president?”
Trump repeatedly refused to answer the question, saying that once he answers it, “that’s all people want to talk about.” So no, he did not give a straight answer to whether Obama’s a legitimate president.
Matthews told him, “I think it’s a blemish––I think it’s your original sin. I’m an American, I think the president should be respected! I think there’s a little ethnic aspect to it, I don’t like it!”
