‘Agent 47’ gets a release date, slight name change for Rupert Friend reboot
DreamWorks announced their upcoming animation projects for 2017 and 2018, but it’s their Hitman reboot which will arrive in theaters first.
The studio announced Friday that Hitman: Agent 47 will be the official name of the film and will arrive in 2015.
Based on the popular video game, the live-action film will star Rupert Friend as the titular character, Agent 47, with Zachary Quinto and Thomas Kretschmann cast as villains. Ciaran Hinds also stars, presumably as a love-interest in a role described by Collider as “pivotal and has a scientific emphasis.”
The film will be directed by Aleksander Bach. This is the first directorial effort for Bach.
The screenplay has been developed by Skip Woods, who wrote the screenplay for the original Hitman film, along with Kyle Ward, who developed the script for Machete Kills, and Mike Finch, who worked on the script for Predators.
Fox had initially planned for the original film to become the first part of a franchise, with Timothy Olyphant reprising the title role throughout a series of adventures, but the film failed at the box office and with critics.
Hitman: Agent 47 is scheduled to be released on February 27, 2015.
