‘The Americans’ season 2 set to focus on marriage with a possible time jump
FX’s The Americans season finale aired Wednesday, but fans and the creators are already looking ahead and speaking out about season 2. Now a press conference allowed the show’s creators to discuss what’s next, especially for the marriage of Philip and Elizabeth.
“It’s hard to imagine The Americans without the marriage being the center of it…. but when it comes to jeopardy, I don’t think we’d want to try to sustain “are they or aren’t they” [going to break up].”
Fans are expecting a time jump but the creative team sounded ambiguous on the topic.
“I’m not sure. The way our timeframe is working, 1981 has gone slowly for us. We’re not going to start [Season 2] with a big time jump. But then how the second season unfolds, we don’t know.”
The cast will be returning for the second season, including Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys in the lead roles. The only major question right now is Margo Martindale, who plays Claudia. She currently stars in a CBS pilot and if the show goes to series, she will likely not be available to shoot the second season of ‘The Americans‘.
Russell also stars in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, which comes to theaters
