‘Ride Along’ Movie Review: Kevin Hart shines in latest ‘Buddy Cop’ film with Ice Cube
Buddy Cop films have a long history over the decades and the latest from Universal puts Ice Cube and comedian Kevin Hart side-by-side in this film directed by Tim Story (Think Like a Man).
Ride Along is an action comedy about a cop named James Payton played by Ice Cube and a security guard named Ben Barber played by Kevin Hart.
Ben is dating James’ sister which doesn’t sit well with James. So James agrees to take Ben on a Ride Along to try and scare him and give him a taste of life as a real police officer. This is when the laughs begin and just continue throughout the movie as Kevin Hart simply attempts to portray the role of a tough cop, which he is definitely not.
The opposite personalities of the characters are what make the movie so funny and interesting to watch.
Ice Cube is a cop who is serious about solving a case and Kevin Hart is a man who thinks being a cop is like playing a video game. The movie gave you flashes of the movie Training Day but in a very comical sense.
Fans will likely find the action scenes in the movie were pretty good and the movie did a decent job of peaking the audience’s curiosity as to trying to figure out who was the main villain – which was a nice surprise.
The characters eventually find strengths in each other as they became a team.
Kevin Hart’s antics are the driving force in the movie. Ride Along will be a hit among movie goers especially Kevin Hart fans.
Very Funny Movie!!!
John Leguizamo, Bruce McGill, Tika Sumpter, Bryan Callen and Laurence Fishburne also star.
Overall: Ride Along receives 3 1/2 out of 5 stars
