Florida man, Alexis Garcia arrested for filming FAU students in bathroom, posting videos on Internet
While a woman was using a bathroom at Florida Atlantic University, she saw a man slip a cellphone into the stall.
Alexis Fermin Garcia, 20,was sitting on a toilet in the women’s bathroom, locked in the middle stall, according to a police report, noting how the police found the man, adding that the officer had to kick down the stall door.
It is unclear in which campus bathroom the incident occurred, and the report does not state whether Garcia is a student at the university.
Later, Florida Atlantic University spokeswoman Lisa Metcalf confirmed that Garcia is a student at FAU, but has been banned from the campus. She added that students were not notified of Garcia’s arrest because there was no imminent threat to campus.
Garcia told police he’d recorded at least seven different women using the bathroom on campus in the last month. The video clips were short, between five and 15 seconds, and showed women with their pants down, according to the police report.
Garcia told police he’d taken the videos Nov. 9, Nov. 18 and Wednesday.
The report summarized that Garcia is charged with six counts of video voyeurism and one count of resisting arrest without violence, and was arrested, released about 24 hours later on his own recognizance under supervision.
Due to the Obama administration support of the transgender bathroom access and businesses, like Target, opening up access for gender fluidity, the privacy concerns have risen to dominate headlines.
