Zondervan exec Chip Brown discusses ‘Messiah Origin’ and the impact of graphic novels

Origin is the first adventure in the Messiah graphic novel series translated exclusively from ancient Gospel manuscripts to present the Gospel in graphic novel format.

Jesus Christ Messiah Origin photoChip Brown, the Sr. VP of Zondervan, explained how the graphic novel popularity is key to this generation saying he thinks “….they are sort of the stained glass for this century.”

Brown took out time to discuss with The Global Dispatch the graphic novel, the creators and the plan to roll out similar books to reach out to more readers.

“You think about the history of God’s word and we’ve only had the Gutenberg press for a few hundred years. So, the original Gospels were a verbal tradition,” Brown explains as he transitions into detailing the visuals of the book.

Brown points to the success of superhero films and traditional comic book media as proof of interest in the format and great gateway to introduce God’s word.

He does also layout a broad picture to communicate scripture where Origin is just the first of seven in a series.
