‘Zero Dark Thirty’ star Jason Clarke to lead ‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’
The sequel to 2011’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes has found its lead star. Jason Clarke, co-star in the Oscar nominated Zero Dark Thirty, will head begin production later this year under director Matt Reeves (Cloverfield, Let Me In).
Per Heat Vision, Clarke has been set in an unspecified role in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. This is a most excellent bit of casting, as Clarke received a ton of praise for his role in Kathryn Bigelow’s Zero Dark Thirty.
The film will take place 15 years after the first film and the article notes: “One focus is on the group of human scientists who are struggling to survive alone in San Francisco. Another aspect of the story is the struggle of intelligent ape Caesar, played by a returning Andy Serkis, to maintain dominance over his kingdom.”
The producers are currently working off a draft of the script by Mark Bomback (Live Free or Die Hard), and are eyeing a spring shoot.
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes arrives in theaters July 11, 2014.
