‘Zero Dark Thirty’ beats ‘Haunted House and ‘Gangster Squad’ to win Weekend Box Office
In its first weekend in wide release, Zero Dark Thirty easily captured first place with an estimated $24 million from 2,937 locations reports Box Office Mojo Sunday.
The Oscar nominated film has been in some heated controversy, first over the CIA details in the film and the director Kathryn Bigelow being “snubbed” by the Oscar committee. The film started off strong with $9 million on Friday, finishing ahead of “Gangster Squad” and “A Haunted House,” all new this weekend.
Quentin Tarantino’s “Django Unchained,” also nominated for an Oscar, crossed the $125 mark at the box office, finishing at #4, ahead of fellow big picture films “Les Miserables” at #5 with another $10.1 million and Steven Spielberg’s “Lincoln” at #7 with $6.3 million.
“Lincoln” crossed the $150 total box office mark and “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” went over $275 in US box office receipts.
