Zack Snyder talks ‘Batman v Superman,’ kryponite Easter Egg as new photos drop
Zack Snyder‘s Man of Steel established the new vision of Superman that will play a big role in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and ignited a plan to develop several DC Comics characters for the big film adaptations.
While the upcoming film grew out of plans for a Man of Steel sequel, Snyder revealed the idea of bringing Batman back to the screen as an opponent for this modernized Superman came about pretty early on.
In an interview accompanying the reveal of new stills from the March 2016 release, Snyder explains his pitch for a Batman easter egg at the end of Man of Steel as the seed that grew into Batman v Superman as Snyder told EW,
This is no easy task. Snyder says, “It’s a marathon. No, it’s a marathon within a marathon. Do you know that race from Death Valley to the top of Mount Whitney? It’s, like, 100 miles and it’s from the lowest point in the continental United States to the highest. It’s crazy. Anyway, it’s like that.”
Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice opens on March 25, 2016, but we’ll see Henry Cavill return as Superman, Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne/Batman and Gal Gadot as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman.
The news photos highlight each character and gives fans their first look at Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor with a healthy head of hair.
EW even has word from Affleck about this iteration of Batman, comparing the role to that of Hamlet.
“We accept that he’s played by actors with different interpretations. He’s at the end of his run and maybe the end of his life. There’s this sort of world-weariness to it…He’s on the verge of being swallowed up by the anger and the rage that we see haunt this character in the other manifestations of it, but this guy is further down the line and has become more embittered and cynical.”
Also cast are Holly Hunter, Laurence Fishburne, Amy Adams, Diane Lane, Callan Mulvey, Jeremy Irons, Tao Okamoto, Ray Fisher, Ezra Miller, Jason Momoa, Scoot McNairy, Jena Malone and TJ Norris.
