Yahoo! puts Delicious on the chopping block

Continuing efforts to rebuild, Yahoo has decided to close down several of its products, including the bookmarking service Delicious, AltaVista and My Blog Log. Eric Berlin, founder of My Blog Log leaked a slide from a Yahoo presentation showing other services being “sunset.” The image has since been removed, but not before being picked up by Mashable and other news sites.

This sparked complaints from all over the Web, as users of the services mourned the loss of the innovative feature. ReadWriteWeb likened the loss to “setting a museum on fire,” and Techmeme’s Gabe Rivera tweeted, “I wish the Smithsonian could keep it running.”

Check back later today when Rob weighs in with an obit for Delicious and some thoughts on what it means for Yahoo.
