‘X-Men Apocalypse’ details, how ‘Deadpool’ fits into Fox universe, ‘The Wolverine’ sequel details

Simon Kinberg detailed what fans can expect from X-Men: Apocalypse, which he describes as the completion of an arc for the First Class characters and how the Deadpool film fits into things.

“I will say that it is definitely the close of a trilogy for those First Class characters,” says Kinberg to Collider, “which isn’t to say we won’t see them in future movies, hopefully we will, but it’s a completion of an arc for them.”

x-men-days-of-future-james-mcavoy-michael-fassbender-600x399“I think that the friendship between Erik and Charles, which has always been so integral to the franchise, is something we’re continuing to explore and hopefully deepen with Apocalypse.”

“And the relationship between Beast and Mystique is a really interesting one that we didn’t have a lot of time to explore in Days of Future Past, so we’ll have an opportunity to do more of that in Apocalypse.”

In fact, Mystique will be pivotal to the completion of this particular story arc.

“Part of what’s really interesting about Mystique’s character is that she is, in some ways, the child of both Erik and Charles,” says Kinberg in the interview.

“She grew up with Charles and then she sort of became a woman with Erik, so her being the cross-pollination, if you will, of those two philosophies and those two men is something we can explore in the movie too.”

Additionally, Simon spoke about the recently confirmed Deadpool film and how (or if that fits into the same universe):

“There’s definitely a sort of overall plan that we’ve all been talking about for the X-Men universe now and Deadpool obviously fits into that. So yeah, I guess I would say it’s part of an overall timeline and thought process that goes into these films.”

“Some of that is inspired by the comics and some of that is inspired by seeing what Marvel’s done with telling a larger tapestry and linking all those movies together, even as they stand independently as well… the same kind of thought is going to go into these X-Men movies at Fox,” he says to ComicBook.com.

Deadpool will open in theaters February 12, 2016 with only Ryan Reynolds and director Tim Miller confirmed.

Old Man Logan Wolverine comic book coverX-Men: Apocalypse will have director Bryan Singer returning with Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult and come to theaters May  2016.

Hugh Jackman will be back as well, but will then play Wolverine for a third solo film. Fans got confirmation that it will be about “Old Man Logan.”

“Well, of course we’re looking at Old Man Logan, because that may be the only option left at this point! [laughs] We are looking at a lot of different storylines. No one has jumped out. You can tell from my answer that we’re still working it out. I’m working with Jim Mangold, which is exciting. Jim came on board The Wolverine after Darren [Aronofsky] left, so he inherited it. And of all the things that Jim can do, one of the great things he does is develop scripts. I’m excited to see what we can come up with, but I haven’t signed on signed on. I’m genuinely at that point where unless it’s better than the last one I’m not going to do it.”

The Wolverine sequel arrives on March 3, 2017 with director James Mangold confirmed to return.

X-Men: Days of Future Past comes to Blu-ray and DVD on October 14, 2014.
