Botches
- Alicia Fox was noticeably late on breaking up a pin.
- Charlotte and Becky didn’t break the table on the moonsault, and the referee had to kick a chair to Becky Lynch for her to escape the Figure Eight through the ladder.
- Ronda Rousey’s double slam of the Bella Twins was the sort of obvious cooperation that breaks the believability of pro wrestling. I don’t think the end result was worth watching Brie climb up there.
Bodyslams
- 20 Woman Battle Royal – These can turn into a mess very easily, but this was as close to perfectly executed as one can get. Some of the commentary during this match was hilarious. Renee Young after Lana’s elimination “Lana was acting a fool, she had that coming” was perfectly delivered, and was an example of so many moving parts coming together at the right time to put on a great show.
- Toni Storm vs. Io Shirai – These women gave us a glimpse of the future of wrestling. One where the men have to step up their game if they don’t want to take a back seat to the women.
- Becky Lynch vs. Charlotte Flair – WWE’s first Last Woman Standing Match was a performance for the history books in every way. This match reminded me of old school hardcore wrestling without crossing into something too violent for a PG rating. This was better than Seth Rollins and Dolph Ziggler’s Last Man Standing Match at Extreme Rules.
Evolution was one of the best shows of the year, and was exciting from beginning to end. I had to nitpick the mistakes in the ring to find critiques for the show. Every match was well booked and well delivered. The Battle Royal was better than most of the ones men put on. The women from NXT and the Mae Young Classic were fantastic. Even Nikki Bella versus Ronda Rousey turned out to be far better than I expected. This was a history making night for the Women of WWE, and they pulled it off with the level of excellence fan have come to expect from them. I definitly want more from this Women’s Division, and hope they get Tag Team Championships and their own regular show soon.
