‘Wonder Woman’ star Lynda Carter joins ‘Supergirl’ season 2
Supergirl, which recently jumped ship from CBS to The CW, has created even more fan excitement with the casting of Superman, Tyler Hoechlin, and adding Wonder Woman, or at least the former star of Wonder Woman, Lynda Carter.
Deadline reports that Carter, who famously played the title superhero on television’s Wonder Woman from 1975 through 1979, has been cast as the President of the United States.
It’s not clear how large this role will be, but it’s about time Carter was brought into the TV DC Universe. After all, Supergirl stands on a foundation that Carter helped build decades ago.
“Greg [Berlanti] and I have wanted to work with Tyler for ages, so this worked out perfectly because Tyler is Superman,” said executive producer Andrew Kreisberg of Supergirl. “We are so thrilled and humbled to add another amazing actor to the legacy of this iconic character.”
TV Line detailed some other new characters:
“Lena Luthor, who will be in the 25-35 year old range, arrives in town to get out from under the shadow of her infamous brother. She’s described as sexy and smart and determined to get what she wants. But what does she want? That remains unclear.”
Four other new characters: Nick Farrow, a ‘brash leading man’ who ‘butts heads with Kara at CatCo’; The Doctor, ‘the diabolical female leader of Project Cadmus who uses her surgical skills to implant prisoners with alien technology’; Snapper Carr, ‘a veteran journalist appointed by Cat to remake the news division by going old school’; and Maggie, ‘an out and proud detective for the newly formed Science Police, which deals specifically with metahuman and alien threats’.
Supergirl’s production will have to move from Los Angeles to Vancouver, the home of The CW’s superhero stable. The Hollywood Reporter confirms that Calista Flockhart will stay with the show despite this move, contrary to rumors that floated around the web purporting that she wouldn’t leave LA.
