‘West Bank Story’ creator Ari Sandel hired by Sony for ‘Goosebumps’ film, opens in October
Sony has set Ari Sandel to direct Goosebumps 2, setting the film for an October release.
Deadline reports that Goosebumps 2 will now open on October 12, 2018, a few weeks later than its original September 21, 2018 release date.
Based on the anthology novel series by R. L. Stine, the new script was written by Rob Lieber. Goosebumps 2 will go up against First Man and Hellfest at the box office, so another release move could be likely.
In any case, Goosebumps 2 has an Oscar winning director at the helm; Sandel won for Best Short Film in 2007 with West Bank Story. He most recently completed When We First Met, with Alexandra Daddario, Robbie Amel and Adam Devine, and his last film was The Duff.
Neal H. Moritz is producing through his Original Film banner with Deborah Forte of Scholastic Entertainment.
Despite the references to only Goosebumps 2, the title of the film was said to be Goosebumps: Horrorland with Jack Black returning as Stine. In June, 2017, the real R.L. Stine teased Slappy (voiced by Black) would appear in Horrorland in a tweet on Twitter.
Goosebumps: Horrorland arrives in theaters on October 12, 2018
