Wendy Ford killed by Arnold Ford, who bludgeoned his senior mom, Florence Ford, kills self at Pennsylvania truck stop
A Rochester, New York man identified as a suspect in the death of his wife and the attempted killing of his mother was found dead near a Harborcreek Township truck stop in Pennsylvania on Wednesday.
Arnold Ford Jr., 53, was found dead inside of his truck on the property of a towing company across from the entrance to the TA Travel Center on Depot Road near the Interstate 90 interchange.
Capt. Dan Hines, commander of state police Troop E in Lawrence Park Township said Thursday morning that Pennsylvania State Police troopers were called there to investigate a report of a man slumped over in a vehicle. The officers found Ford dead from a fatal self-inflicted gunshot wound.
A handgun was recovered in the vehicle. Troopers were able to match the license plate of that vehicle with the one being sought by Monroe County Sheriff’s deputies.
Monroe County Sheriff Todd Baxter said police were called by an employer around 10:30 a.m. to check on a person who did not show up for work.
“An employer called in to 9-1-1 saying ‘someone didn’t show up to work and we’re concerned’; that led us to this investigation,” Baxter said.
When they arrived at a home on Collingsworth Drive in Penfield, they found a woman dead inside the home. She was identified as Ford’s wife, Wendy Ford.
Less than an hour later, deputies responded to a home on Leibeck Road in Riga, where deputies discovered Ford’s mother, Florence Ford. She was taken to a Rochester hospital with injuries described as life-threatening, nearly bludgeoned to death.
“They found an elderly lady there with a wound to her head, a serious physical injury, but she was still alive,” said Baxter. He said she had been there for a couple of hours. The woman was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital, where Baxter said she is in “critical condition.”
Police have no motives or other information as this time.
