‘Watchmen’ star Billy Crudup cast as Henry Allen in ‘The Flash’ film

Billy Crudup, who, comic book fans will know as Dr. Manhattan in Watchmen, is set to play Barry Allen’s father in The Flash film, Variety reports.

Ezra Miller has made a very brief cameo in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, as well as the montage in Suicide Squad. Opposite Miller will be Kiersey Clemons as Iris West with an appearance by Ray Fisher as Victor Stone/Cyborg.

Other credits include Big Fish, Mission Impossible III, Spotlight and next year’s TV show Gypsy.

Variety also noted Crudup’s work in the “the Sundance darling The Stanford Prison Experiment, the upcoming biopic Jackie and 20th Century Women starring Annette Bening.

Rick Famuyiwa (Dope, Our Family Wedding) will be directing from a script by Seth Grahame-Smith, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller.

Ezra Miller’s Flash will be a key hero in next year’s Justice League as the DC Cinematic Universe explodes by expanding their onscreen presence.

Miller will also be appearing in the blockbuster Harry Potter prequel Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, arriving in theaters in November.

He revealed he petitioned Warner Bros to land both roles while speaking with Pottermore: “So I’m thinking about the part, I’m dreaming about it, I want it and I know deep down that I will do anything for it. So I start emailing Warner Bros. and I say, ‘Look at Humphrey Bogart!’ Casablanca was his eleventh film with the studio that decade. We don’t do that anymore, we don’t develop relationships between actors and studios. There’s no loyalty like that anymore. I say in these emails that I want that with you. I want Credence and I want The Flash.”

The movie is expected to start shooting this year with a target March 16, 2018 release date.
