Warner Bros postpones ‘Tarzan’ film confirmed Alexander Skargard hints at problems, budget

The script may be good, but the price is too steep for Warner Bros at this moment for Tarzan. Deadline reports that the production office will be “shuttering” as the film will be postponed (at minimum.)

Director David Yates (Harry Potter franchise) is attached with Alexander Skarsgard (True Blood, Battleship) and Jessica Chastain (Zero Dark Thirty), but Skarsgard said there was trouble.

“I mean we’ll see what happens. I’m not quite sure yet. It’s a very, very good script. It’s a really, really good script, but it’s also a very big movie so it’s not super easy to just get a project like that off the ground,” the Swedish star told Crave Online.

Skarsgard didn’t say the budget was the problem and instead praised Yates and the chance to work with the director.

“He’s arguably one of the greatest directors out there. He’s a phenomenal, very intelligent guy, an amazing director.”

Deadline points to casting and timing, “could also have been an issue” noting that WB was wooing Jamie Foxx to play the film’s third lead but hadn’t made a deal.

This is the film that Warner Bros has tried to get going for years, even hiring scribes Adam Cozad and Craig Brewer to separately script their own visions for the franchise.

The “insiders at the studio tell me they are trying again for 2014 and that Yates is still in the fold. The studio hadn’t greenlit the film and did not have pay or play deals, so it wasn’t that hard to apply the brakes,” says Deadline.

Skarsgard will be returning this summer for True Blood season 6.

I’m hoping that when this project finally gets underway, they will have a more appropriate actor in the lead role. Alexander Skarsgard ain’t the guy.
