‘War Room’ DVD, Blu-Ray sales setting records
“War Room” the Christian family drama from director Alex Kendrick follows the seemingly perfect lives of the Jordan family who seem to have it all. But sometimes looks can be deceiving and as the challenges in their lives mount, the couple turns to prayer to find true happiness.
Since its release in theatres the film has been exceeding all expectations and projections. On opening weekend the film grossed $11.4 million, more than double initial projections, and in its second weekend the film earned the number one spotat the North American box office. When the film debuted on DVD on December 22, 2016 that trend continued, with the film debuting as the #2 DVD on the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert Sales Chart its first week of release, and then taking over the #1 spot the second week.
The mainstream success of a predominantly Christian movie is relatively unheard of. At Family Christian stores, “War Room” is the fastest selling DVD in company history, better selling than The Passion of the Christ and Fireproof. It has sold more units in its first 8 weeks than any DVD in company history. In fact, “War Room” is the fastest selling product in company history.
The film’s runaway success has surprised many, and offers a compelling case study about how a small, low-budget Christian film can build a strong following and achieve mainstream accolades.
