Walter Bailey identified as body floating in Tennessee River
Florence Police Department officials in Alabama identified a body floating in the Tennessee River as Walter Bailey.
Bailey, 51, of Florence, was spotted floating by a fisherman near the McFarland Park campground, near the mouth of Cypress Creek., who then called the police.
The Florence Police Department dive team and the Florence Fire and Rescue marine unit were dispatched to the area to investigate around 6:20 p.m., Thursday evening.
According to Assistant Fire Chief Tim Anerton had announced that the coroner arrived on scene and identified the man as “a 30 to 50-year-old white male, approximately 5’10” and weighs around 230 lbs,” seeking help from the public for identification.
Florence Police made a post on their Facebook page asking for people to help identify the man.
Police are unsure where Bailey entered the water.
During the initial reporting, Anerton said the man appears to have a medical issue with his right leg that required surgery and a recent wound dressing. He had a bandage on the leg, from the middle of his calf to his toes.”
Alabama Marine Police are assisting in the investigation.
