‘Wall Fall Down’ Book Review: A great examination of Joshua, the Battle of Jericho
One of the greatest miracles in the Bible is often overlooked and underpreached: the fall of Jericho. In his new book, Dudley Rutherford examines that amazing event and directly illustrates the links to 2014 living.
Walls Fall Down: 7 Steps from the Battle of Jericho to Overcome Any Challenge points readers to scripture as relates God’s amazing intervention to the day-to-day struggles we all must face. From “Shrinking the Wall” to the “Unconventional Plan” Rutherford chronicles the events of Joshua taking the leadership role after Moses’ death and delivering God’s plan to his chosen people.
One of the most powerful insights here is Rutherford expounding on J.C. Watts quote “Character is doing what is right when no one is watching” and pointing out that “strong character is revealed when you do the right thing when everyone is looking.”
These are the gems interwoven in the examination of this well known Biblical event. The army marched around the wall with the Ark of the Covenant, but more specifically, Rutherford reveals the significance of God’s presence – right in the center.
Self-help books offer a lot of advice, but the Holy word of God holds the true answers. Rutherford truly details the messages and lessons of Rahab the prostitute and the power behind obedience and perseverance.
Expanding on Malcolm Gladwell’s observations and assessments from his book Outliers, the author illustrates the timeline of God, the amount of work we need to submit and how experts log “ten thousand hours” to gain perfection.
For avid readers and analysts of scripture Rutherford may not be offering anything earth shattering, but Walls Fall Down is concise, easy to reader and should encourage more study and appreciation of God’s great triumph at Jericho.
The pages truly speak to inspire and encourage those struggling or facing a great challenge by better understanding God’s role in your life and how he’s proven that time and time again here at Jericho.
Overall Walls Fall Down receives 3 1/2 out of 5 stars
Add a star if you truly have a hard time understanding scripture, especially this story, or if you need study material or assistance with Bible study, writing a sermon or a paper on Joshua. It deserves a permanent place on my bookshelf for that exact purpose.
