‘Walking Dead’ star IronE Singleton interview: New book ‘Blindsided by the Walking Dead,’ getting out of ‘the hood’
IronE Singleton may be known for his role as T-Dog on The Walking Dead and as the kingpin Alton in The Blind Side, but Singleton has just released his first book, an autobiography titled “Blindsided by the Walking Dead.” IronE spoke with Dispatch Radio about the book, his life’s struggles and how his faith helped him through the journey.
IronE delivers a powerful, transparent interview, full of tragedy, but laced with hope as he lost his mother, didn’t have much of a relationship with his father and street was full of gang violence, drugs and chaos.
“It was considered the worst housing project in the Southeast, if not the entire country,” he says as he begins to discuss his upbringing and the circumstances surrounding his youth.
Like the pages of the new page, IronE never holds back with a direct yet kind approach to telling readers/listeners how it was and how it is.
Somehow IronE was drawn to football and ultimately played for the University of Georgia Bulldogs and pursued his other passion: acting. Through stage work, mostly free or for a few dollars, IronE details the years of theater roles before sharing the humorous stories of getting in costume: first as a school mascot and later popular Hanna and Barbara characters like Scooby-Doo and well….listen for yourself.
Later IronE got his break by landing the role of Anton in The Blind Side and later, The Walking Dead.
“6 million plus, we debuted at 6 million viewers,” IronE said, while reflecting on the immediate impact the show made when it debuted and how he immediately knew this show was something special. Then IronE talks about T-Dog, tapping into his personal trials to make the scenes real and how appreciative he is for the experience.
