Vice President Joe Biden, Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak, and Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz all made calls to congratulate Marty Walsh, but managed to call the wrong Marty Walsh.

The next mayor of Boston didn’t get calls from some high profile Democrats after his victory this week and that’s because they all called the former Edward Kennedy staffer in error.

“We’ve had this for the past 20 years happening back and forth. Marty tells a funny story from 2006 when Kennedy thanked me from the stage and his mother thought it was for him,” said non-mayor-elect Walsh, joking that sharing the mayor’s name could have its perks.

“If you need a reservation in the city of Boston, I can probably get you any reservation you want,” he told the Cape Cod Times.

The Time detailed how a White House operator phoned Walsh after the race was called for the other Walsh to set up a call with the president, and Walsh, who was watching the returns at home on television, had to explain that they had the wrong Marty.

Then the phone rang again, and it was Biden himself on the phone. “You son of a gun,” Biden started in on the call, before being informed that it wasn’t the former Kennedy staffer he knew that had been elected mayor.
Schultz left a message of Walsh’s phone, and the Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak, a graduate of Boston College, called to congratulate.

Walsh, who owns his own consulting company called Gateway Public Solutions, laughed off the confusion. “If you need a reservation in the city of Boston, I can probably get you any reservation you want,” he said
